THE LUX STORY, BY FOUNDER BENJAMIN SEARS

Benjamin Sears and “the moms”, Francine Sears at her birthday party in NYC, May 2019.

As we approach our fifteen-year anniversary in the South of France, I know now that LUX is a story of passion and family; passion for quality instilled in me in different ways by my parents, and a story of family in more ways than one. Without my mom, we literally wouldn’t be here. Turning a family estate into a luxury boutique wellness resort has enabled the space to provide an experience of coziness and friendship that wouldn’t be possible in a typical destination setting. But it’s so much more than that. I learned the art of entertaining from my mom, like how to care for the details so that it all looks easy, and how to make things formal enough that guests feel cared for – but also eat with their hands when the moment calls for digging in.

Watching my mom go up against large corporations with her small business and win allowed me to create my vision of blending purposeful practice and comfortable luxury. Now, my partner, Tatiana and I oversee every aspect of the LUXYOGA experience, and sometimes we are lucky enough to have my mom as a guest. Hospitality is who we are, whether it’s cooking for friends or curating retreats, and that’s not all. LUXYOGA also represents family and passion in the insatiable thirst for knowledge and absolute expectation of precision from my dad that keeps me studying, practicing, researching and refining the practices we offer at the villa. In a world of fitness fads and super-food promises, I will continue to believe that teaching comes with a responsiblity to lead from the front, and that a refined practice is made up of equal parts precision, sweat, introspection, laughter, and joy.

Sometimes coming home means making your own way.

WHAT’S IN A NAME? LUX = LIGHT

Like a retreat at the villa, the name LUXYOGA is the sum of its parts. “LUX” is Latin for light, and it’s been with me since I was probably six years-old when my dad taught me the phrase ”Lux et Veritas” – Light and Truth. I want you to find your inner light and enjoy the level of vacation you’ve earned. Yoga in its simplest Sanskrit form means union. LUXYOGA joins luxury and yoga, vacation and immersion, your light and your truth.

And the light? You take that home with you.
